  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to tuition waivers; amending s.

  3         1009.26, F.S.; requiring community colleges and

  4         state universities to waive tuition for a

  5         recipient of a Purple Heart who fulfills

  6         specified criteria; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Subsection (9) is added to section 1009.26,

12  Florida Statutes, to read:

13         1009.26  Fee waivers.--

14         (9)  Beginning in the 2007-2008 academic year, a state

15  university or community college shall waive undergraduate

16  tuition for each recipient of a Purple Heart who:

17         (a)  Is admitted as a full-time, part-time, or

18  summer-school student in an undergraduate program of study

19  leading to a degree or certificate;

20         (b)  Is currently, and was at the time of the military

21  action that resulted in the awarding of the Purple Heart, a

22  resident of this state; and

23         (c)  Submits to the community college or university

24  documentation verifying that the student has received a Purple

25  Heart.

26         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
