16 insert:
17 Section 2. Subsection (1) of section 20.201, Florida
18 Statutes, is amended to read:
19 20.201 Department of Law Enforcement.--
20 (1) There is created a Department of Law Enforcement.
21 The head of the department is the Governor and Cabinet. The
22 executive director of the department shall be appointed by the
23 Governor and with the approval of three members of the Cabinet
24 and subject to confirmation by the Senate. The executive
25 director shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor and
26 Cabinet. The executive director may establish a command,
27 operational, and administrative services structure to assist,
28 manage, and support the department in operating programs and
29 delivering services.

6 An act relating to law enforcement; amending s.
7 20.165, F.S.; requiring each employee serving
8 as a law enforcement officer for the division
9 to meet the qualifications of a law enforcement
10 officer set forth in ch. 943, F.S., for
11 employment or appointment; requiring each such
12 employee to be certified as a law enforcement
13 officer by the Department of Law Enforcement;
14 providing the law enforcement officer with
15 certain powers, authority, and jurisdiction;
16 specifying the primary and secondary
17 responsibilities of law enforcement officers of
18 the division; amending s. 20.201, F.S.;
19 revising the manner in which the executive
20 director of the Department of Law Enforcement
21 is appointed; providing an effective date.
