6An act relating to student voter education; authorizing
7district school boards and county supervisors of elections
8to cooperate to provide a program of voter education for
9high school seniors; providing guidelines for the content
10of the educational program; requiring that the program of
11voter education be conducted during school hours;
12providing an effective date.

14Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

16     Section 1.  (1)  Each district school board and county
17supervisor of elections may cooperate to provide voter education
18to high school students who are in grade 12. The voter education
19may be in the form of a presentation and is voluntary for public
20high schools and nonpublic high schools. Each supervisor of
21elections may conduct the presentation for the public high
22schools and, upon request, for the nonpublic high schools.
23     (2)  If provided, the voter education must include
24information concerning:
25     (a)  How to register and preregister to vote.
26     (b)  The operation of voting machines.
27     (c)  How, when, and where to vote.
28     (d)  The importance of voting.
29     (3)  If provided, the voter education program must provide
30students with the opportunity, sufficient information, and
31sufficient time to complete and hand in to the supervisor of
32elections applications for voter registration.
33     (4)  If provided, the voter education program shall be
34conducted during school hours each term of the school year in
35order to reach a maximum number of students in the most
36effective and efficient manner.
37     (5)  If voter education is provided, a student may not be
38excluded from the voter education program due to an irregular
39class schedule, and students enrolled in a magnet school must be
40provided the same opportunity for voter education.
41     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
