4 | to cooperate to provide a program of voter education for |
5 | high school seniors; providing guidelines for the content |
6 | of the educational program; requiring that the program of |
7 | voter education be conducted during school hours; |
8 | providing an effective date. |

10 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

12 | Section 1. (1) Each district school board and county |
13 | supervisor of elections may cooperate to provide voter education |
14 | to high school students who are in grade 12. The voter education |
15 | may be in the form of a presentation and is voluntary for public |
16 | high schools and nonpublic high schools. Each supervisor of |
17 | elections may conduct the presentation for the public high |
18 | schools and, upon request, for the nonpublic high schools. |
19 | (2) If provided, the voter education must include |
20 | information concerning: |
21 | (a) How to register and preregister to vote. |
22 | (b) The operation of voting machines. |
23 | (c) How, when, and where to vote. |
24 | (d) The importance of voting. |
25 | (3) If provided, the voter education program must provide |
26 | students with the opportunity, sufficient information, and |
27 | sufficient time to complete and hand in to the supervisor of |
28 | elections applications for voter registration. |
29 | (4) If provided, the voter education program shall be |
30 | conducted during school hours each term of the school year in |
31 | order to reach a maximum number of students in the most |
32 | effective and efficient manner. |
33 | (5) If voter education is provided, a student may not be |
34 | excluded from the voter education program due to an irregular |
35 | class schedule, and students enrolled in a magnet school must be |
36 | provided the same opportunity for voter education. |
37 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
