1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to disabled veterans; amending
3 s. 295.16, F.S.; expanding an exemption from
4 certain fees relating to structural
5 improvements to a disabled veteran's residence;
6 providing an effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Section 295.16, Florida Statutes, is
11 amended to read:
12 295.16 Disabled veterans exempt from certain license
13 or permit fee.--No totally and permanently disabled veteran
14 who is a resident of Florida and honorably discharged from the
15 Armed Forces, who has been issued a valid identification card
16 by the Department of Veterans' Affairs in accordance with s.
17 295.17 or has been determined by the United States Department
18 of Veterans Affairs or its predecessor to have a
19 service-connected 100-percent disability rating for
20 compensation, or who has been determined to have a
21 service-connected disability rating of 100 percent and is in
22 receipt of disability retirement pay from any branch of the
23 uniformed armed services, shall be required to pay any license
24 or permit fee, by whatever name known, to any county or
25 municipality in order to make improvements upon a dwelling
26 mobile home owned by the veteran which is used as the
27 veteran's residence, provided such improvements are limited to
28 ramps, widening of doors, and similar improvements for the
29 purpose of making the dwelling mobile home habitable for
30 veterans confined to wheelchairs.
31 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
