  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to firefighter pensions;

  3         amending s. 175.032, F.S.; revising the

  4         definition of the term "special fire control

  5         district" to include certain community

  6         development districts performing fire

  7         suppression and related services; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Subsection (16) of section 175.032, Florida

13  Statutes, is amended to read:

14         175.032  Definitions.--For any municipality, special

15  fire control district, chapter plan, local law municipality,

16  local law special fire control district, or local law plan

17  under this chapter, the following words and phrases have the

18  following meanings:

19         (16)  "Special fire control district" means a special

20  district, as defined in s. 189.403(1), established for the

21  purposes of extinguishing fires, protecting life, and

22  protecting property within the incorporated or unincorporated

23  portions of any county or combination of counties, or within

24  any combination of incorporated and unincorporated portions of

25  any county or combination of counties. The term includes

26  community development districts providing fire suppression and

27  related services pursuant to s. 190.012(2)(b). The term does

28  not include any dependent or independent special district, as

29  defined in s. 189.403(2) and (3), respectively, the employees

30  of which are members of the Florida Retirement System pursuant

31  to s. 121.051(1) or (2).
