18 Section 1. Subsection (7) is added to section 373.196,
19 Florida Statutes, to read:
20 373.196 Alternative water supply development.--
21 (7) The South Florida Water Management district shall
22 develop recommendations on the feasibility of above ground
23 reservoirs to be constructed, operated, and maintained for the
24 storage of high level discharges from Lake Okeechobee to the
25 Caloosahatchee River. In developing the recommendations, the
26 district shall consider infrastructure necessary to transfer
27 water being discharged from Lake Okeechobee to a reservoir and
28 infrastructure necessary to construct, operate, and maintain
29 water production and transmission facilities for the purpose
30 of supplying water for multiple uses to the surrounding areas;
31 and shall identify state and local water resource development

1 and water supply development programs which encourage the
2 development and use of alternative water supplies through
3 partnership efforts.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
5 law.
