  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to perjury; creating s.

  3         837.051, F.S.; providing a penalty for

  4         knowingly and willfully giving false

  5         information to a law enforcement officer which

  6         interferes with a felony investigation or a

  7         missing-person investigation; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Section 837.051, Florida Statutes, is

13  created to read:

14         837.051  False information to law enforcement officer

15  during investigation.--Any person who knowingly and willfully

16  gives false information or a false report to a law enforcement

17  officer who is in the course of conducting a felony

18  investigation or a missing-person investigation commits a

19  misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s.

20  775.082 or s. 775.083, if the information or report interferes

21  with the investigation or misleads a law enforcement officer

22  during the course of the investigation.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2006.
