1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to nursing; amending s.
3 464.015, F.S.; specifying that only a person
4 who holds a certificate to practice as a
5 certified registered nurse anesthetist may use
6 the title "Certified Registered Nurse
7 Anesthetist" and certain abbreviations;
8 amending s. 464.016, F.S.; providing a penalty
9 for using the title "Certified Registered Nurse
10 Anesthetist" without being licensed or
11 certified; providing an effective date.

13 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
14
15 Section 1. Section 464.015, Florida Statutes, is
16 amended to read:
17 464.015 Titles and abbreviations; restrictions;
18 penalty.--
19 (1) Only persons who hold licenses to practice
20 professional nursing in this state or who are performing
21 nursing services pursuant to the exception set forth in s.
22 464.022(8) may shall have the right to use the title
23 "Registered Nurse" and the abbreviation "R.N."
24 (2) Only persons who hold licenses to practice as
25 licensed practical nurses in this state or who are performing
26 practical nursing services pursuant to the exception set forth
27 in s. 464.022(8) may shall have the right to use the title
28 "Licensed Practical Nurse" and the abbreviation "L.P.N."
29 (3) Only persons who are graduates of approved
30 programs or the equivalent may use the term "Graduate Nurse"

1 and the abbreviation "G.N.," pending the results of the first
2 licensure examination for which they are eligible.
3 (4) Only persons who are graduates of approved
4 programs or the equivalent may use the term "Graduate
5 Practical Nurse" and the abbreviation "G.P.N.," pending the
6 results of the first licensure examination for which they are
7 eligible.
8 (5) Only persons who hold valid certificates to
9 practice as certified registered nurse anesthetists in this
10 state may use the title "Certified Registered Nurse
11 Anesthetist" and the abbreviations "C.R.N.A." or "nurse
12 anesthetist."
13 (6)(5) Only persons who hold valid certificates to
14 practice as advanced registered nurse practitioners in this
15 state may shall have the right to use the title "Advanced
16 Registered Nurse Practitioner" and the abbreviation "A.R.N.P."
17 (7)(6) A No person may not shall practice or advertise
18 as, or assume the title of, registered nurse, licensed
19 practical nurse, certified registered nurse anesthetist, or
20 advanced registered nurse practitioner or use the abbreviation
21 "R.N.," "L.P.N.," "C.R.N.A.," "nurse anesthetist," or
22 "A.R.N.P." or take any other action that would lead the public
23 to believe that person was certified as such or is performing
24 nursing services pursuant to the exception set forth in s.
25 464.022(8), unless that person is licensed or certified to
26 practice as such.
27 (8)(7) A violation of this section is a misdemeanor of
28 the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s.
29 775.083.
30 Section 2. Paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section
31 464.016, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

1 464.016 Violations and penalties.--
2 (2) Each of the following acts constitutes a
3 misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s.
4 775.082 or s. 775.083:
5 (a) Using the name or title "Nurse," "Registered
6 Nurse," "Licensed Practical Nurse," "Certified Registered
7 Nurse Anesthetist," "Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner,"
8 or any other name or title that which implies that a person
9 was licensed or certified as such same, unless the such person
10 is duly licensed or certified.
11 Section 3. This act shall take effect October 1, 2006.

Anesthetist" and certain abbreviations. Provides a
