A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to the Alachua County Housing Authority;
3amending chapter 71-526, Laws of Florida; providing that
4the Alachua County Commission may appoint two alternate
5members to the Alachua County Housing Authority; providing
6that the Alachua County Housing Authority is not a
7dependent special district; providing severability;
8providing an effective date.

10Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12     Section 1.  Chapter 71-526, Laws of Florida, is amended to
13read:
14     Section 1.  The Commissioners of the Alachua County Housing
15Authority shall be appointed by the Board of County
16Commissioners of Alachua County, Florida, in lieu of the method
17appointment provided for under section Chapter 421.27,
18subsection (2), Florida Statutes; provided, however, the board
19of county commissioners may appoint one at-large alternate
20member and one alternate tenant commissioner.
21     Section 2.  The Alachua County Housing Authority is an
22independent authority and not a dependent special district of
23Alachua County, because the Board of County Commissioners of
24Alachua County cannot remove housing authority members or
25control housing authority budgets.
26     Section 3.  If any provision of this act or its application
27to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity
28shall not affect other provisions or applications of the act
29that can be given effect without the invalid provision of the
30application, and to this end the provisions of the act are
31declared severable.
32     Section 2.  This act shall take effect on July 1, 1971.
33     Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
