A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to seaports; requiring the Department of
3Law Enforcement to develop a program to survey the
4underwater areas of certain deepwater seaports;
5designating certain deepwater seaports; providing an
6appropriation; providing an effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10     Section 1.  On or before July 1, 2007, the Department of
11Law Enforcement shall develop and implement a program to
12conduct, at least biennially, a survey using a sonar scanning
13system that generates highly detailed two-dimensional and three-
14dimensional maps and charts of the underwater areas of each
15deepwater seaport in this state that serves cargo or passenger
16vessels. For purposes of this section, the term "deepwater
17seaport" means each of the ports of Jacksonville, Port
18Canaveral, Palm Beach, Port Everglades, Miami, Port Manatee, St.
19Petersburg, Tampa, Panama City, Pensacola, Key West, and
20Fernandina.
21     Section 2.  The sum of $1.5 million is appropriated from
22the General Revenue Fund to the Department of Law Enforcement to
23administer this act.
24     Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
