8 1002.63, F.S.; revising the number of
9 instructional hours that are required for a
10 school-year prekindergarten program delivered
11 by a public school; amending s. 1002.71, F.S.;
12 revising the number of instructional hours that
13 are required in order for a student in a
14 school-year prekindergarten program delivered
15 by a public school or a private prekindergarten
16 provider to be considered a full-time
17 equivalent student in the Voluntary
18 Prekindergarten Education Program; providing an
19 effective date.

21 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

23 Section 1. Subsection (2) of section 1002.55, Florida
24 Statutes, is amended to read:
25 1002.55 School-year prekindergarten program delivered
26 by private prekindergarten providers.--
27 (2) Each school-year prekindergarten program delivered
28 by a private prekindergarten provider must comprise up to 720
29 at least 540 instructional hours or the same number of
30 instructional hours as is provided to a student in

1 kindergarten and first grade, if the provider provides
2 instruction in kindergarten and first grade.
3 Section 2. Subsection (2) of section 1002.63, Florida
4 Statutes, is amended to read:
5 1002.63 School-year prekindergarten program delivered
6 by public schools.--
7 (2) Each school-year prekindergarten program delivered
8 by a public school must comprise at least the same number of
9 540 instructional hours as the school provides for a student
10 in kindergarten and first grade.
11 Section 3. Subsection (2) of section 1002.71, Florida
12 Statutes, is amended to read:
13 1002.71 Funding; financial and attendance reporting.--
14 (2) A full-time equivalent student in the Voluntary
15 Prekindergarten Education Program shall be calculated as
16 follows:
17 (a) For a student in a school-year prekindergarten
18 program delivered by a private prekindergarten provider: up to
19 720 540 instructional hours or the same number of
20 instructional hours as is provided to a student in
21 kindergarten and first grade, if the provider provides
22 instruction in kindergarten and first grade.
23 (b) For a student in a summer prekindergarten program
24 delivered by a public school or private prekindergarten
25 provider: 300 instructional hours.
26 (c) For a student in a school-year prekindergarten
27 program delivered by a public school: the same number of 540
28 instructional hours as the school provides for a student in
29 kindergarten and first grade.

1 Except as provided in subsection (4), a student may not be
2 reported for funding purposes as more than one full-time
3 equivalent student.
4 Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.

number of instructional hours that are required for a
10 school-year prekindergarten program delivered by a public
school. Revises the number of instructional hours that
11 are required for a student in a school-year
prekindergarten program delivered by a public school or a
12 private prekindergarten provider to be considered a
full-time equivalent student in the Voluntary
13 Prekindergarten Education Program.
