11  The Committee on Education (Wilson) recommended the following
12  amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 139, between lines 24 and 25,
16  
17  insert:  
18         Section 66.  Section 1003.425, Florida Statutes, is
19  created to read:
20         1003.425  Required information for 9th-grade students
21  and those leaving public school; mandatory followup
22  counselor.--
23         (1)  Beginning in the 2007-2008 school year, each
24  student who is in the second semester of the 9th grade in a
25  public school must be given instruction in:
26         (a)  The value of a high school education, both
27  financial and cultural;
28         (b)  The alternative assessments, such as the SAT and
29  the ACT, the scores of which could help the student obtain a
30  high school diploma; and
31         (c)  The postsecondary options that are available,

The instruction must 5 include a detailed discussion of the relative advantages and 6 disadvantages of each alternative. 7 (2) Beginning in the 2007-2008 school year, a student 8 who withdraws from public school for reasons other than 9 graduating or transferring to another school within or outside 10 the state must have an exit interview with a counselor who 11 presents the student with the types of information required to 12 be presented to 9th grade students under subsection (1). In 13 the exit interview, the counselor must also determine where 14 the individual plans to go, and the school must assign to the 15 individual a counselor who will follow his or her progress and 16 serve as a resource for educational information until he or 17 she attains the age of 18 years. 18 19 20 ================ T I T L E A M E N D M E N T =============== 21 And the title is amended as follows: 22 On page 11, line 1, after the semicolon, 23 24 insert: 25 creating s. 1003.425, F.S.; requiring that 26 certain information concerning the value of a 27 high school education, the test scores that 28 help students obtain a diploma, and the options 29 for postsecondary training and workforce 30 participation be provided to students who are 31 in the 9th grade and to those who withdraw from 2 9:04 AM 04/04/06 s2048c-ed33-ty8
