11  Senator Lynn moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment 
14         On page 14, line 17, through
15            page 15, line 17, delete those lines
16  
17  and insert:  
18         (3)  Train K-12 teachers and school principals on
19  effective content-area-specific reading strategies. For
20  secondary teachers, emphasis shall be on technical text. These
21  strategies must be developed for all content areas in the K-12
22  curriculum.
23         (4)  Provide parents with information and strategies
24  for assisting their children in reading in the content area.
25         (5)  Provide technical assistance to school districts
26  in the development and implementation of district plans for
27  use of the research-based reading instruction allocation
28  provided in s. 1011.62(8) and annually review and approve such
29  plans.
30         (6)  Review, evaluate, and provide technical assistance
31  to school districts' implementation of the K-12 comprehensive

Florida Senate - 2006 SENATOR AMENDMENT Bill No. CS for CS for SB 2048 Barcode 281222 1 reading plan required in s. 1011.62(8). 2 (7) Work with the Florida Center for Reading Research 3 to provide information on research-based reading programs and 4 effective reading in the content area strategies. 5 (8) Periodically review the Sunshine State Standards 6 for reading at all grade levels. 7 (9) Periodically review teacher certification 8 examinations, including alternative certification exams, to 9 ascertain whether the examinations measure the skills needed 10 for research-based reading instruction and instructional 11 strategies for teaching reading in the content areas. 12 (10) Work with teacher preparation programs approved 13 pursuant to s. 1004.04 to integrate research-based reading 14 instructional strategies and reading in the content area 15 instructional strategies into teacher preparation programs. 16 (11) Administer grants and perform other functions as 17 necessary to meet the goal that all students read at grade 18 level. 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 2 6:48 PM 05/01/06 s2048c2b-07-c3t
