11 The Committee on Education Appropriations (Miller) recommended
12 the following amendment:

14 Senate Amendment (with title amendment)
15 On page 25, lines 4-15, delete those lines
16
17 and insert: school enrollment.
18 1. Beginning in the 2007-2008 school year, a student
19 who withdraws from a public school for reasons other than
20 graduating or transferring to another school within or outside
21 the state must have an exit interview with a counselor who
22 presents the student with information concerning:
23 a. The value of a high school education, both
24 financial and cultural;
25 b. The alternative assessments, such as the SAT and
26 the ACT, the scores of which could help the student obtain a
27 high school diploma; and
28 c. The postsecondary options that are available,
29 including workforce training and enrolling in a community
30 college or a university, and the prerequisites to each, with
31 or without a diploma. The instruction must include a detailed

1 discussion of the relative advantages and disadvantages of
2 each alternative.
3 2. In the exit interview, the counselor must also
4 determine where the student plans to go, and the school must
5 assign to the student a counselor who will serve as a resource
6 for educational information until he or she attains the age of
7 18 years.

11 And the title is amended as follows:
12 On page 2, line 31, after the semicolon,
13
14 insert:
15 requiring that a counselor present specified
16 information to such a student and assign to the
17 student a followup counselor who will provide
18 educational information until he or she is 18
19 years of age;
