11  The Committee on Education Appropriations (Klein) recommended
12  the following amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 18, lines 3 through 8, delete those lines,
16  
17  and insert:  
18         Section 14.  Paragraph (c) of subsection (5) of section
19  1001.42, Florida Statutes, is repealed and paragraph (f) of
20  subsection (4) and subsection (16) of that section are
21  amended, to read:
22         1001.42  Powers and duties of district school
23  board.--The district school board, acting as a board, shall
24  exercise all powers and perform all duties listed below:
25         (4)  ESTABLISHMENT, ORGANIZATION, AND OPERATION OF
26  SCHOOLS.--Adopt and provide for the execution of plans for the
27  establishment, organization, and operation of the schools of
28  the district, including, but not limited to, the following:
29         (f)  Opening and closing of schools; fixing uniform
30  date.--Adopt policies for the opening and closing of schools
31  and fix uniform dates; however, the date for opening the

 1  school year for schools in the district may not be earlier
 2  than 14 days before Labor Day each year.
