1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution honoring Hillsborough County's
3 2005 Award Winners of the Florida Migrant
4 Interstate Program.

6 WHEREAS, the Florida Migrant Interstate Program, an
7 entity of the Florida Department of Education, annually
8 recognizes certain individuals for their achievements as
9 scholars or as recruiters, teachers, or administrators, and
10 WHEREAS, among the five 2005 award winners from
11 Hillsborough County, one of the two Exemplary Migrant Scholars
12 of the Year is Erica Reynoso, 65th in a Durant High School
13 class of 512, having taken 29 honor classes, 2 advanced
14 placement classes, and 2 dual enrollment courses with
15 Hillsborough Community College while tutoring middle school
16 students and working in the strawberry fields and the local
17 supermarket, and
18 WHEREAS, Emanuel Lucas, also a Durant graduate, has
19 worked in the fields since the age of 10; is the first migrant
20 student at Durant to be President of the French Club; is the
21 first to make the varsity football team while also
22 volunteering in the community; and has been accepted to attend
23 the University of South Florida, and
24 WHEREAS, Migrant Recruiter of the Year Rogelio
25 Villanueva, of Plant City, is active with the Redlands
26 Christian Migrant Association and on several related
27 committees while collecting and making accessible to migrant
28 families information as to available resources pertinent to
29 their sustainability, and
30 WHEREAS, the Migrant Teacher/Educator of the Year is
31 Juanita Cannon, who has spent the past 27 years helping

1 migrant children and families gain access to medical, health,
2 social, and academic services provided by the School District
3 of Hillsborough County Migrant Program, and
4 WHEREAS, Migrant Administrator of the Year Ann Cranston
5 oversees the College Assistance Migrant Program at the
6 University of South Florida, which provides to migratory
7 children financial assistance toward the completion of
8 college, NOW, THEREFORE,

10 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
11
12 That the Florida Senate commends Erica Reynoso, Emanuel
13 Lucas, Rogelio Villaneuva, Juanita Cannon, and Ann Cranston
14 for their outstanding accomplishments and enthusiastically
15 endorses the recognition by the Florida Migrant Interstate
16 Program of these five extraordinary people.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
18 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to each
19 award recipient as a tangible token of the sentiments of the
20 Florida Senate.
