  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing April 20, 2006, as

  3         "Hillsborough County Day."

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Hillsborough County, one of the leading

  6  business locations in the world, with a dynamic and positive

  7  business climate, is the economic hub of the western gateway

  8  to the Florida High Tech Corridor, an economic development

  9  initiative that includes a mega region of 23 counties reaching

10  eastward across the state to the Atlantic Ocean, and

11         WHEREAS, Hillsborough County is the largest partner in

12  the 7-county region that extends along the Gulf Coast from

13  Hernando to Sarasota Counties and includes Polk County to the

14  west, an area represented by the Tampa Bay Area Legislative

15  Delegation, and

16         WHEREAS, Hillsborough County hosts Tampa International

17  Airport, a leading global airport and the nation's 29th

18  busiest, and the Port of Tampa, Florida's largest cargo port,

19  while also serving as the nexus of the region's Interstate

20  Highway System, and

21         WHEREAS, Hillsborough County offers a seamless

22  continuum of public education beginning with the School

23  District of Hillsborough County, proceeding to Hillsborough

24  Community College, and culminating with the University of

25  South Florida, which celebrates its 50th anniversary

26  throughout 2006, and

27         WHEREAS, Hillsborough County, with an average annual

28  temperature of 72 degrees, includes miles of waterways,

29  including beautiful Gulf and Bay shorelines, and the

30  Hillsborough River, a part of the regional water supply and a

 1  significant recreational asset for numerous water-dependent

 2  activities, and

 3         WHEREAS, Hillsborough County, extending from emerging

 4  SouthShore to historic Bayshore and from farmlands to an urban

 5  core, offers a plethora of lifestyles, a wealth of cultural as

 6  well as professional sports activities, and an abundance of

 7  other year-round activities, both entertaining and

 8  educational, NOW, THEREFORE,

 9  

10  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

11  

12         That April 20, 2006, is recognized as "Hillsborough

13  County Day" as the Florida Senate celebrates "Flavors of

14  Hillsborough" at the State Capitol.
