  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to school food service

  3         programs; amending s. 1006.06, F.S.; requiring

  4         district school board plans to eliminate the

  5         sale or use of products containing

  6         high-fructose corn syrup from school food

  7         service programs and on school grounds;

  8         requiring Department of Education approval of

  9         plans, monitoring of plan implementation, and

10         reporting; providing an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13  

14         Section 1.  Subsection (6) is added to section 1006.06,

15  Florida Statutes, to read:

16         1006.06  School food service programs.--

17         (6)  By January 1, 2007, each district school board

18  shall submit to the department a plan to eliminate the sale or

19  use of products containing high-fructose corn syrup from

20  school food service programs and on school grounds. The plan

21  must contain a schedule to accomplish the elimination of

22  products containing high-fructose corn syrup by July 1, 2007,

23  and must be approved by the department. The department shall

24  monitor the implementation of each district school board's

25  plan and provide a report on such implementation to the

26  President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of

27  Representatives by January 1, 2008, and annually thereafter.

28         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

29  law.
