  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing Volunteers of America

  3         on the organization's 110th Anniversary.

  4  

  5         WHEREAS, Volunteers of America celebrates the 110th

  6  anniversary of its founding on March 8, 2006, and

  7         WHEREAS, Volunteers of America of Florida provides

  8  services to more than 4,300 people each year in 24 programs

  9  throughout the state which help and house low-income elderly

10  persons, individuals with serious and persistent mental

11  illness, veterans in need, and homeless people, and

12         WHEREAS, Volunteers of America of Florida provides more

13  than 300 volunteers to serve their communities in meaningful

14  roles, and

15         WHEREAS, Volunteers of America in the Florida Veterans

16  Mobile Service Center has provided emergency response to five

17  major hurricanes in the past 2 years, and

18         WHEREAS, Volunteers of America of Florida typifies the

19  spirit of generosity and commitment to community which

20  personifies the American spirit, and

21         WHEREAS, Volunteers of America has been a leader of

22  nonprofit charities and a contributing member of communities

23  in Florida since 1920, NOW, THEREFORE,

25  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

26  

27         That the Florida Senate is pleased to extend

28  congratulations to Volunteers of America of Florida in

29  recognition of its service to the residents of this state and

30  recognizes March, 2006, as "Volunteers of America Month."
