  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing Zachary Sandoval on

  3         receiving a Prudential Spirit of Community

  4         Award.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, Zachary Sandoval, a resident of Miami Shores

  7  and a student at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, has

  8  achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service

  9  in receiving a 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, and

10         WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by

11  Prudential Financial in partnership with the National

12  Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young

13  volunteers across America who have demonstrated an

14  extraordinary commitment to serving their communities, and

15         WHEREAS, Mr. Sandoval earned this award by creating,

16  when he was in 8th grade, an after-school science-education

17  program for inner-city children which now operates in six

18  schools and four libraries involving approximately 45 student

19  volunteers, and

20         WHEREAS, Mr. Sandoval's program provides science

21  classes, audiotapes, a website, books and supplies and

22  produces a newsletter, greatly enhancing the educational

23  experiences and opportunities of many students in the Miami

24  Shores community, and

25         WHEREAS, the strength of our young people and

26  communities, the success of the State of Florida, and the

27  overall vitality of American society depend in great measure

28  upon the inspiration and hard work of young people such as

29  Zachary Sandoval who use their considerable talents and

30  energies to serve others, NOW, THEREFORE,

 1  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 2  

 3         That the Senate congratulates and honors Mr. Zachary

 4  Sandoval as a recipient of a Prudential Spirit of Community

 5  Award; recognizes his outstanding record of volunteer service,

 6  peer leadership, and community spirit; and extends best wishes

 7  for his continued success.

 8         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

 9  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Zachary

10  Sandoval as a token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
