1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the accomplishments of
3 Richard J. Carmichael in amateur and
4 professional motorcycle racing.

6 WHEREAS, Richard J. Carmichael, born in Clearwater in
7 November 1979, began motorcycle racing when he was 5 years old
8 after receiving a Tri Zinger three-wheel motorcycle from his
9 father, and,
10 WHEREAS, after practicing for only 1 month, Ricky
11 entered his first race, placed 5th, and continued to
12 participate in peewee three-wheeler races in Dade City, where,
13 at age 6, he won first-place overall in his age group for
14 1986, based on 15 first-place wins, and
15 WHEREAS, from then on, Ricky compiled an astonishing
16 record of victories in motorcycle racing 'minis,' received his
17 first contract with Team Kawasaki at the age of 7, and
18 accumulated 8 amateur national titles by age 9, and
19 WHEREAS, in 1990, Ricky won the World minis in Las
20 Vegas and the mini Olympics in Gainesville, and continued his
21 amazing streak of victories, collecting 67 amateur
22 championships by the time he began competing as a professional
23 in 1996, and
24 WHEREAS, in professional competition he began by
25 winning the AMA 125cc Chevrolet Motocross Championship in
26 1997; the 125cc Supercross East Championship and the AMA 125cc
27 Chevrolet Championship in 1998; and the AMA Chevrolet
28 Motocross Championship again in 1999, and
29 WHEREAS, in 2000, Ricky led team USA to a win in the
30 Motocross Des Nations, and continued to win multiple AMA
31 championships every year until, in 2005, he accomplished a

1 grand slam that no other motorcycle racer had done before,
2 winning the AMA 250cc Motocross Championship, the AMA 250cc
3 Supercross Series, the THQ World Supercross GP, the Motocross
4 Des Nations, and the U.S. Open of Supercross, and was named
5 the AMA Pro Racing Speed Channel Athlete of the Year for the
6 fourth time, NOW, THEREFORE,

8 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
9
10 That the Senate commends the outstanding
11 accomplishments of Richard (Ricky) J. Carmichael in the field
12 of motorcycle and motocross racing and acknowledges the
13 valuable and honorable recognition he has brought to the State
14 of Florida through his consistently excellent performance and
15 fine sportsmanship.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
17 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Ricky
18 Carmichael as a token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
