  1                        Senate Resolution

  2         A resolution commending the Florida 4-H Program

  3         and recognizing April 27, 2006, as "Florida 4-H

  4         Day" at the Capitol.

  5  

  6         WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H Program, organized by the

  7  Florida Cooperative Extension Services of the University of

  8  Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences,

  9  prepares the youth of this state for the workplace and

10  encourages them to become leaders, not only for tomorrow, but

11  also today, and

12         WHEREAS, more than 280,000 children ages 5 through 18

13  in all 67 Florida counties and on the Seminole Tribes

14  Reservations participate in the Florida 4-H Program, making

15  "the best better" through activities, events, and projects

16  designed to develop and strengthen the skills and talents of

17  all participants, and

18         WHEREAS, Florida 4-H participants "learn by doing"

19  through a diverse array of projects in areas ranging from

20  computers to community service to animal science and

21  aeronautics, and

22         WHEREAS, every year thousands of 4-H volunteers share

23  their knowledge and time with children from across the state,

24  mentoring, supporting, and helping the children and youth of

25  Florida 4-H to make a positive difference in their

26  communities, and

27         WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H Program also enables young

28  people to grow and become participating citizens in a

29  democracy through outstanding programs such as the Florida 4-H

30  Legislature, Congress, and Executive Boards, and

 1         WHEREAS, by encouraging rural, suburban, and urban

 2  youth to participate in its programs, Florida 4-H brings the

 3  vital experience of its essential elements--Belonging,

 4  Independence, Mastery, and Generosity--into the lives of

 5  children and promotes positive youth development, NOW,

 6  THEREFORE,

 7  

 8  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

 9  

10         That the Senate congratulates and commends the Florida

11  4-H Program, its teachers and volunteers, and its many young

12  participants on their goals and achievements in this fine

13  organization, and recognizes today, April 27, 2006, as

14  "Florida 4-H Day" at the Capitol.
