1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing April 28, 2006, as
3 "Workers' Memorial Day" in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, 35 years ago Congress passed the Occupational
6 Safety and Health Act, promising every American worker the
7 right to a safe job, and
8 WHEREAS, unions and their allies have fought hard to
9 make that promise a reality, winning protections that have
10 saved hundreds of thousands of lives and prevented millions of
11 workplace injuries, and
12 WHEREAS, the toll of workplace injuries, illnesses, and
13 death nonetheless remains enormous, with 60,000 American
14 workers dying from job-related injuries each year and another
15 6 million workers injured on the job, and
16 WHEREAS, the unions of the AFL-CIO are committed to the
17 continuing struggle to make workers' safety a priority and to
18 keep and create good jobs in America, for American workers,
19 and
20 WHEREAS, America's economy and the health and vigor of
21 American society depend on the availability of decent jobs for
22 American workers and on the safety of those jobs, NOW,
23 THEREFORE

25 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
26
27 That April 28, 2006, is recognized as "Workers'
28 Memorial Day" in the State of Florida in honor of the many
29 American workers who have suffered injury and death on the
30 job, and in recognition of the work of the unions of the
31
