  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to Veterans' Day; requiring

  3         school districts to observe Veterans' Day;

  4         prohibiting holding classes on that day;

  5         providing an exception; requiring the date of

  6         the Veterans' Day observance to correspond with

  7         the federal holiday; providing an effective

  8         date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Each school district must observe November

13  11 of each year as the Veterans' Day holiday. Classes may not

14  be held on such holiday for any reason except for a declared

15  state emergency. If November 11 falls on a Saturday or Sunday,

16  a school holiday shall be observed on a weekday immediately

17  following or preceding that weekend so as to correspond with

18  the date that Veterans' Day is observed as a federal holiday.

19         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
