8 | F.S.; requiring state universities and community colleges |
9 | to waive tuition for a recipient of a Purple Heart who |
10 | fulfills specified criteria; providing a percentage cap on |
11 | the number of required credit hours for which a tuition |
12 | waiver may be received; providing an effective date. |

14 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

16 | Section 1. Subsection (9) is added to section 1009.26, |
17 | Florida Statutes, to read: |
18 | 1009.26 Fee waivers.-- |
19 | (9) A state university or community college shall waive |
20 | undergraduate tuition for each recipient of a Purple Heart who: |
21 | (a) Is enrolled as a full-time, part-time, or summer- |
22 | school student in an undergraduate program that terminates in a |
23 | degree or certificate; |
24 | (b) Is currently, and was at the time of the military |
25 | action that resulted in the awarding of the Purple Heart, a |
26 | resident of this state; and |
27 | (c) Submits to the state university or the community |
28 | college the DD-214 form issued at the time of separation from |
29 | service as documentation that the student has received a Purple |
30 | Heart. |

32 | Such a waiver for a Purple Heart recipient shall be applicable |
33 | for 110 percent of the number of required credit hours of the |
34 | degree or certificate program for which the student is enrolled. |
35 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
