  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to discriminatory lending

  3         practices; prohibiting an employee or agent of

  4         a financial institution from denying loans or

  5         restricting the number of loans made to

  6         residents of a particular geographic area of a

  7         community based on the race, national origin,

  8         or income of the residents of that area;

  9         providing a penalty; providing an effective

10         date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13  

14         Section 1.  An employee of a financial institution who

15  denies loans or restricts the number of loans made to the

16  residents of a particular geographic area of a community who

17  have the same or similar credit histories or required

18  financial data based on the race, national origin, or income

19  of the residents of that area commits a felony of the third

20  degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or

21  s. 775.084, Florida Statutes.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
