1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing the Ospreys 70-plus
3 Softball Team on their championship victories
4 in the International Softball Federation World
5 Cup title in Manassas, Virginia.

7 WHEREAS, on June 19, 2005, the Ospreys, one of Cape
8 Coral's oldest softball teams, defeated Moe's Raiders of
9 Sayreville, New Jersey, by a score of 18-9 to win the
10 International Federation World Cup title, and
11 WHEREAS, over the course of five games the Ospreys
12 played to clinch the championship, the team scored 65 runs,
13 made only five errors, and had only 22 runs scored against
14 them, and
15 WHEREAS, the Ospreys have been organized since 1990 and
16 were World Champions in 1998 in Aurora, Colorado, as a 65-plus
17 team; were State Champions in 2000 in Lakeland, Florida; and
18 were participants in the Easton Winter Nationals at Cape
19 Coral, Florida, in 2004, and
20 WHEREAS, the Ospreys' team members participating in the
21 2005 International Softball Federation World Cup were George
22 Barnes, Hugh Brotherton, Pete Cecchini, Robert D'Amadio,
23 Sherwood Hutcherson, Jack Ostrander, Richard Perkins, Robert
24 Rogers, Richard Spencer, Herb Thal, Bucky Winfrey, and Stanley
25 Young, and
26 WHEREAS, the Ospreys are an inspiration to the people
27 of the State of Florida and signify to us all that age need
28 not impede determination, athleticism, or the competitive
29 spirit, NOW, THEREFORE,

31 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

1 That the Senate congratulates and commends the Ospreys
2 70-plus Softball Team on a magnificent sustained performance,
3 and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
5 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to each
6 member of the Ospreys Team as a tangible token of the
7 sentiments of the Florida Senate.
