11 The Committee on Domestic Security (Wilson) recommended the
12 following amendment:

14 Senate Amendment (with title amendment)
15 Delete everything after the enacting clause
16
17 and insert:
18 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (4) of section
19 252.385, Florida Statutes is amended, and paragraph (d) is
20 added to that subsection, to read:
21 252.385 Public shelter space.--
22 (4)(a) Public facilities, including schools,
23 postsecondary education facilities, and other facilities owned
24 or leased by the state or local governments, but excluding
25 hospitals or nursing homes, which are suitable for use as
26 public hurricane evacuation shelters shall be made available
27 at the request of the local emergency management agencies.
28 Such agencies shall coordinate with the appropriate school
29 board, university, community college, state agency, or local
30 governing board when requesting the use of such facilities as
31 public hurricane evacuation shelters.

1 (d) The Department of Management Services shall
2 include in the annual state facilities inventory report
3 required under ss. 216.015-216.016 a separate list of
4 state-owned facilities, including, but not limited to, meeting
5 halls, auditoriums, conference centers, and training centers
6 that have unoccupied space suitable for use as an emergency
7 shelter during a storm or other catastrophic event. Facilities
8 must be listed by the county and municipality where the
9 facility is located and must be made available in accordance
10 with paragraph (a). As used in this paragraph, the term
11 "suitable for use as an emergency shelter" means meeting the
12 standards set by the American Red Cross for a hurricane
13 evacuation shelter, and the term "unoccupied" means vacant due
14 to suspended operation or nonuse. The list must be updated by
15 May 31 of each year.
16 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
