2An act relating to state travel expenses; amending s.
3112.061, F.S.; prescribing the rate for calculating
4mileage reimbursement when privately owned vehicles are
5used for official travel by state employees and public
6officers; providing an effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10     Section 1.  Paragraph (d) of subsection (7) of section
11112.061, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
12     112.061  Per diem and travel expenses of public officers,
13employees, and authorized persons.--
14     (7)  TRANSPORTATION.--
15     (d)1.  The use of privately owned vehicles for official
16travel in lieu of publicly owned vehicles or common carriers may
17be authorized by the agency head or his or her designee.
18Whenever travel is by privately owned vehicle, the traveler is
19shall be entitled to a mileage allowance equal to the business
20standard mileage rate set by the United States Internal Revenue
21Service for the calendar year in which the official travel
22occurs at a fixed rate of 25 cents per mile for state fiscal
23year 1994-1995 and 29 cents per mile thereafter or the common
24carrier fare for such travel, as determined by the agency head.
25Reimbursement for expenditures related to the operation,
26maintenance, and ownership of a vehicle is shall not be allowed
27when privately owned vehicles are used on public business and
28reimbursement is made under pursuant to this paragraph, except
29as provided in subsection (8).
30     2.  All mileage shall be shown from point of origin to
31point of destination and, when possible, shall be computed on
32the basis of the current map of the Department of
33Transportation. Vicinity mileage necessary for the conduct of
34official business is allowable but must be shown as a separate
35item on the expense voucher.
36     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
