| 4 | an inference that the person in possession of a stolen |
| 5 | motor vehicle knew or should have known that the motor |
| 6 | vehicle had been stolen; providing an effective date. |

| 8 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 9 |

| 10 | Section 1. Subsection (6) is added to section 812.022, |
| 11 | Florida Statutes, to read: |
| 12 | 812.022 Evidence of theft or dealing in stolen property.-- |
| 13 | (6) Proof that a person was in possession of a stolen |
| 14 | motor vehicle and that the ignition mechanism of the motor |
| 15 | vehicle had been bypassed or the steering wheel locking |
| 16 | mechanism had been broken or bypassed, unless satisfactorily |
| 17 | explained, gives rise to an inference that the person in |
| 18 | possession of the stolen motor vehicle knew or should have known |
| 19 | that the motor vehicle had been stolen. |
| 20 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
