11  The Committee on Judiciary (Baker) recommended the following
12  amendment:

14         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
15         On page 4, between lines 10 and 11,

17  insert:  
18         Section 2.  Subsection (2) of section 382.008, Florida
19  Statutes, is amended to read:
20         382.008  Death and fetal death registration.--
21         (2)(a)  The funeral director who first assumes custody
22  of a dead body or fetus shall file the certificate of death or
23  fetal death.  In the absence of the funeral director, the
24  physician or other person in attendance at or after the death
25  shall file the certificate of death or fetal death.  The
26  person who files the certificate shall obtain personal data
27  from the next of kin or the best qualified person or source
28  available.  The medical certification of cause of death shall
29  be furnished to the funeral director, either in person or via
30  certified mail, by the physician or medical examiner
31  responsible for furnishing such information. For fetal deaths,

Florida Senate - 2006 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT Bill No. SB 746 Barcode 485062 1 the physician, midwife, or hospital administrator shall 2 provide any medical or health information to the funeral 3 director within 72 hours after expulsion or extraction. 4 (b) The local registrar may receive electronically a 5 certificate of death or fetal death which is required to be 6 filed with the registrar under this chapter through facsimile 7 or other electronic transfer for the purpose of filing the 8 certificate.
