7490.0149, F.S.; providing a definition; specifying the
8circumstances under which a psychologist may hold himself
9or herself out as a certified psychology specialist or
10psychology diplomate; requiring the Board of Psychology to
11adopt rules and establish specified criteria for the
12approval of certifying bodies; specifying that a person
13licensed under ch. 490, F.S., may specify the types of
14services he or she provides; providing an effective date.

16Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
17
18     Section 1.  Section 490.0149, Florida Statutes, is created
19to read:
20     490.0149  Specialties.--
21     (1)  As used in this section, the term "specialist" or
22"diplomate" means a psychologist with recognized special
23competency acquired through an organized sequence of formal
24education, training, experience, and professional standing.
25     (2)  A person licensed as a psychologist or school
26psychologist may not hold himself or herself out as a certified
27psychology specialist or psychology diplomate unless the person
28has received formal recognition as a board-certified psychology
29specialist or psychology diplomate from a recognized certifying
30body that has been approved by the board.
31     (3)  The board shall adopt rules pursuant to ss. 120.536(1)
32and 120.54 to establish criteria for approval of certifying
33bodies pursuant to the requirements of subsection (2). The
34criteria shall include:
35     (a)  Peer review and self study.
36     (b)  Established standards.
37     (c)  Assessments of competencies characteristic of the
38specialty.
39     (d)  Administrative support.
40     (e)  A unified relationship to the public and the
41profession.
42     (4)  A person licensed under this chapter may indicate the
43services he or she offers and may indicate that his or her
44practice is limited to one or more types of services when this
45accurately reflects his or her scope of practice.
46     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2006.
