11 | diplomate; requiring the Board of Psychology to adopt |
12 | rules to establish specified criteria for approval of |
13 | certifying bodies; specifying that a person licensed under |
14 | ch. 490, F.S., may specify the types of services he or she |
15 | provides; providing an effective date. |

17 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
18 |

19 | Section 1. Section 490.0149, Florida Statutes, is created |
20 | to read: |
21 | 490.0149 Specialties.-- |
22 | (1) As used in this section, the term "certified |
23 | psychology specialist," "board-certified psychology specialist," |
24 | or "psychology diplomate" means a psychologist with recognized |
25 | special competency acquired through an organized sequence of |
26 | formal education, training, experience, and professional |
27 | standing that is recognized by a certifying body approved by the |
28 | board pursuant to criteria adopted under subsection (3). |
29 | (2) A person licensed as a psychologist may not hold |
30 | himself or herself out as a certified psychology specialist, |
31 | board-certified psychology specialist, or psychology diplomate |
32 | unless the person has received formal recognition from an |
33 | approved certifying body. |
34 | (3) The board shall adopt rules to establish criteria for |
35 | approval of certifying bodies that provide certification for |
36 | specialties in psychology as provided in subsection (1). The |
37 | criteria shall include that a certifying body: |
38 | (a) Be national in scope, incorporate standards of the |
39 | profession, and collaborate closely with organizations related |
40 | to specialization in psychology. |
41 | (b) Have clearly described purposes, by-laws, policies, |
42 | and procedures. |
43 | (c) Have established standards for specialized practice of |
44 | psychology. |
45 | (d) Provide assessments that include the development and |
46 | implementation of an examination designed to measure the |
47 | competencies required to provide services that are |
48 | characteristic of the specialty area. |
49 | (4) A person licensed as a psychologist under this chapter |
50 | may indicate the services he or she offers and may indicate that |
51 | his or her practice is limited to one or more types of services |
52 | when this accurately reflects his or her scope of practice. |
53 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
