8 | rules to establish specified criteria for approval of |
9 | certifying bodies; specifying that a person licensed under |
10 | ch. 490, F.S., may specify the types of services he or she |
11 | provides; providing an effective date. |

13 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
14 |

15 | Section 1. Section 490.0149, Florida Statutes, is created |
16 | to read: |
17 | 490.0149 Specialties.-- |
18 | (1) As used in this section, the term "certified |
19 | psychology specialist," "board-certified psychology specialist," |
20 | or "psychology diplomate" means a psychologist with recognized |
21 | special competency acquired through an organized sequence of |
22 | formal education, training, experience, and professional |
23 | standing that is recognized by a certifying body approved by the |
24 | board pursuant to criteria adopted under subsection (3). |
25 | (2) A person licensed as a psychologist may not hold |
26 | himself or herself out as a certified psychology specialist, |
27 | board-certified psychology specialist, or psychology diplomate |
28 | unless the person has received formal recognition from an |
29 | approved certifying body. |
30 | (3) The board shall adopt rules to establish criteria for |
31 | approval of certifying bodies that provide certification for |
32 | specialties in psychology as provided in subsection (1). The |
33 | criteria shall include that a certifying body: |
34 | (a) Be national in scope, incorporate standards of the |
35 | profession, and collaborate closely with organizations related |
36 | to specialization in psychology. |
37 | (b) Have clearly described purposes, by-laws, policies, |
38 | and procedures. |
39 | (c) Have established standards for specialized practice of |
40 | psychology. |
41 | (d) Provide assessments that include the development and |
42 | implementation of an examination designed to measure the |
43 | competencies required to provide services that are |
44 | characteristic of the specialty area. |
45 | (4) A person licensed as a psychologist under this chapter |
46 | may indicate the services he or she offers and may indicate that |
47 | his or her practice is limited to one or more types of services |
48 | when this accurately reflects his or her scope of practice. |
49 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
