11 | funds; providing for implementation to the extent funds |
12 | are appropriated; providing an effective date. |

14 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

16 | Section 1. Section 1011.755, Florida Statutes, is created |
17 | to read: |
18 | 1011.755 Magnet program grants.-- |
19 | (1) There is created a one-to-one matching grant program |
20 | to provide funds to school districts with magnet programs that |
21 | have large waiting lists to enable the school districts to |
22 | replicate the programs in other schools. |
23 | (2) The matching grant program shall be administered by |
24 | the Department of Education. A district school board must submit |
25 | an application proposing the expansion of a magnet program to |
26 | other schools in the school district. The proposal must include |
27 | projected enrollment, costs for the magnet program, district |
28 | match commitment and fund source, and such other information as |
29 | the department may require. Upon approval, the Commissioner of |
30 | Education shall authorize distribution of state one-to-one |
31 | matching funds to the school district which may be used for |
32 | personnel, supplies, student services, or other expenses |
33 | associated with the expansion of a magnet program as determined |
34 | in the grant application. |
35 | (3) The matching grant program shall be implemented to the |
36 | extent funds are appropriated in the General Appropriations Act |
37 | to the Department of Education for this purpose. |
38 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
