| 1 | A bill to be entitled |
| 2 | An act relating to regulation of foreign language court |
| 3 | interpreters; requiring the Supreme Court to establish |
| 4 | standards and procedures for qualifications, |
| 5 | certification, conduct, discipline, and training of |
| 6 | appointed foreign language court interpreters; requiring |
| 7 | the Supreme Court to set fees for certification |
| 8 | applications; specifying the use and deposit of such fees; |
| 9 | authorizing the Supreme Court to appoint or employ |
| 10 | personnel for certain administration assistance purposes; |
| 11 | providing an effective date. |

| 13 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 14 |

| 15 | Section 1. The Supreme Court shall establish minimum |
| 16 | standards and procedures for qualifications, certification, |
| 17 | professional conduct, discipline, and training of foreign |
| 18 | language court interpreters who are appointed by a court of |
| 19 | competent jurisdiction. The Supreme Court shall set fees to be |
| 20 | charged to applicants for certification and renewal of |
| 21 | certification as a foreign language court interpreter. The |
| 22 | revenues generated from such fees shall be used to offset the |
| 23 | costs of administration of the certification program and shall |
| 24 | be deposited into the Operating Trust Fund within the state |
| 25 | courts system. The Supreme Court may appoint or employ such |
| 26 | personnel as is necessary to assist the court in administering |
| 27 | this section. |
| 28 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2006. |
