House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing April 20, 2006, as "Hillsborough
3County Day."

5     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County, one of the leading business
6locations in the world, with a dynamic and positive business
7climate, is the economic hub of the western gateway to the
8Florida High Tech Corridor, an economic development initiative
9that includes a mega region of 23 counties reaching eastward
10across the state to the Atlantic Ocean, and
11     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County is the largest partner in the
127-county region that extends along the Gulf Coast from Hernando
13to Sarasota Counties and includes Polk County to the west, an
14area represented by the Bay Area Legislative Delegation, and
15     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County hosts Tampa International
16Airport, a leading global airport and the nation's 29th busiest,
17and the Port of Tampa, Florida's largest cargo port, while also
18serving as the nexus of the region's Interstate Highway System,
19and
20     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County offers a seamless continuum of
21public education beginning with the School District of
22Hillsborough County, proceeding to Hillsborough Community
23College, and culminating with the University of South Florida,
24which celebrates its 50th anniversary throughout 2006, and
25     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County, with an average annual
26temperature of 72 degrees, includes miles of waterways,
27including beautiful Gulf and Bay shorelines, and the
28Hillsborough River, a part of the regional water supply and a
29significant recreational asset for numerous water-dependent
30activities, and
31     WHEREAS, Hillsborough County, extending from emerging
32SouthShore to historic Bayshore and from farmlands to an urban
33core, offers a plethora of lifestyles, a wealth of cultural as
34well as professional sports activities, and an abundance of
35other year-round activities, both entertaining and educational,
36NOW, THEREFORE,

38Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
39Florida:

41     That April 20, 2006, is recognized as "Hillsborough County
42Day" as the House of Representatives celebrates "Flavors of
43Hillsborough" at the State Capitol.
