House Resolution
2A resolution observing March 19-21, 2006, as the 12th
3Annual Delta Days at the Florida Capitol.

5     WHEREAS, since its inception in January 1913 by 22
6outstanding women at Howard University in Washington, D.C.,
7Delta Sigma Theta Sorority has been a vehicle for advocacy,
8effecting social change and public policy through its Social
9Action Commission, and
10     WHEREAS, nearly six weeks after its founding, the first
11public act of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was its participation
12in the women's suffrage movement demanding rights for women, and
13     WHEREAS, the sorority is a sisterhood of college-educated
14women committed to implementing the sorority's mission through
15its Five Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational
16Development, Physical and Mental Health, Political Awareness,
17and International Awareness and Involvement, and
18     WHEREAS, this organization recently celebrated 93 years of
19exemplary service and support to local communities, leading
20dialogue on public policy issues, supporting quality education,
21and producing new projects to stimulate current and future
22economic growth, and
23     WHEREAS, with over 200,000 college-educated women in more
24than 900 chapters worldwide, 47 of which are located in Florida
25and the Bahamas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority members are clearly
26visible as corporate and civic leaders, productive public
27officials, acclaimed academicians, and activists, and
28     WHEREAS, Delta Sorors of the Florida Legislature include
29Senator Larcenia Bullard and Representatives Dorothy Bendross-
30Mindingall, Joyce Cusack, Audrey Gibson, and Arthenia L. Joyner,
31NOW, THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That the members of the Florida House of Representatives
37join the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in observing
38March 19-21, 2006, as the 12th Annual Delta Days at the Florida
39Capitol.
40     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
41presented to Cynthia Boyd, Southern Regional Director, Yolanda
42Moore, and the Florida Leadership Team as a tangible token of
43the sentiments expressed herein.
