4 | WHEREAS, Jack Nicklaus, as a 10-year-old, carded 51 in the |
5 | first nine holes he ever played, winning the Scioto Club |
6 | Juvenile Trophy to start an amateur record that would include |
7 | numerous Ohio state championships; the U.S. National Jaycees |
8 | Championship, his first national title, when he was 17; a year |
9 | later, the Trans-Mississippi Championship; and at 19 and again |
10 | at 21, in his last year as an amateur, the U.S. Amateur |
11 | Championship, and |
12 | WHEREAS, born January 21, 1940, in Columbus, Ohio, Jack |
13 | Nicklaus in 1962 launched his 41-year professional career, |
14 | during which he would amass a total of 113 victories around the |
15 | world; rank number 1 in lowest-scoring average eight times; win |
16 | top money eight times, for official tour earnings of $5,723,192; |
17 | claim the most major championship titles, comprised of 18 PGA |
18 | tour, 8 Senior tour, and 2 Amateur titles; and shoot 20 holes in |
19 | one, and |
20 | WHEREAS, Jack Nicklaus was awarded nine Greatest |
21 | Golfer/Athlete awards and two Golfer of the Century awards and |
22 | was named PGA Player of the Year five times, Athlete of the |
23 | Decade for the 1970's, and Golf Course Architect of the Year in |
24 | 1993, and |
25 | WHEREAS, Jack Nicklaus distinguished himself in numerous |
26 | other golf competitions, including the British and Australian |
27 | Opens, the World Series of Golf, the World Cup Invitational, and |
28 | the Piccadilly World Cup Match Play and as a member of six |
29 | United States Ryder Cup teams that played Britain for five wins |
30 | and one tie, and |
31 | WHEREAS, known for their involvement in charitable causes, |
32 | Palm Beach County residents Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, with |
33 | their family, founded the Nicklaus Children's Health Care |
34 | Foundation, which, in addition to its support of various |
35 | activities related to childhood diseases and disorders, also |
36 | funds the Nicklaus Children's Hospital at St. Mary's Medical |
37 | Center, NOW, THEREFORE, |

39 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

42 | That the House of Representatives pauses in its |
43 | deliberations to honor Jack Nicklaus, one of golf's truly great |
44 | champions. |
45 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
46 | presented to Jack Nicklaus as a tangible token of the sentiments |
47 | expressed herein. |
