House Resolution
2A resolution honoring Hillsborough County's 2005 Award
3Winners of the Florida Migrant Interstate Program.
4
5     WHEREAS, the Florida Migrant Interstate Program, an entity
6of the Florida Department of Education that annually recognizes
7certain individuals for their achievements as scholars or as
8recruiters, teachers, or administrators, has recognized five of
9the 2005 award winners as being from Hillsborough County, and
10     WHEREAS, the female Exemplary Migrant Scholar of the Year,
11Erica Reynoso, graduated 65th in a class of 512 at Durant High
12School, while taking 29 honor classes, 2 advanced placement
13classes, and 2 dual enrollment courses with Hillsborough
14Community College while tutoring middle school students and
15while working in the strawberry fields and the local
16supermarket, and
17     WHEREAS, the male Exemplary Migrant Scholar of the Year,
18Emanuel Lucas, also a Durant graduate, has worked in the fields
19since the age of 10; was the first migrant student at Durant to
20be President of the French Club; was the first to make the
21varsity football team while also volunteering in the community;
22and now attends the University of South Florida, and
23     WHEREAS, the Migrant Recruiter of the Year, Rogelio
24Villanueva, of Plant City, is active with the Redlands Christian
25Migrant Association and on several related committees while
26collecting and making accessible to migrant families information
27as to available housing, medical, educational, and job
28resources, and
29     WHEREAS, the Migrant Teacher/Educator of the Year is
30Juanita Cannon, who has spent the past 27 years helping migrant
31children and families gain access to medical, health, social,
32and academic services provided by the School District of
33Hillsborough County Migrant Program, and
34     WHEREAS, the Migrant Administrator of the Year, Dr. Ann
35Cranston, oversees the College Assistance Migrant Program at the
36University of South Florida, which provides to migratory
37children financial assistance toward the completion of college,
38NOW, THEREFORE,

40Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
41Florida:

43     That the House of Representatives commends Erica Reynoso,
44Emanuel Lucas, Rogelio Villanueva, Juanita Cannon, and Dr. Ann
45Cranston for their outstanding accomplishments and
46enthusiastically endorses the recognition by the Florida Migrant
47Interstate Program of these five extraordinary people.
48     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
49presented to each award recipient as a tangible token of the
50sentiments expressed herein.
