House Resolution
2A resolution designating March 25, 2006, as "Greek
3Independence Day: A National Day of Celebration of Greek
4and American Democracy."

6     WHEREAS, the ancient Greeks developed the concept of
7democracy in which the supreme power to govern was vested in the
8people, and
9     WHEREAS, the Founding Fathers of the United States of
10America drew heavily upon the political experience and
11philosophy of ancient Greece in forming this nation's
12representative form of government, and
13     WHEREAS, these and other ideals have forged a close bond
14between these two nations and their peoples, and
15     WHEREAS, March 25, 2006, marks the 175th anniversary of the
16beginning of the revolution that freed the Greek nation from the
17Ottoman Empire, and
18     WHEREAS, it is proper and desirable to celebrate with the
19freedom-loving Greek people and to reaffirm the democratic
20principles from which these two great nations were born, NOW,
21THEREFORE,

23Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
24Florida:

26     That March 25, 2006, is designated as "Greek Independence
27Day: A National Day of Celebration of Greek and American
28Democracy."
