1	House Resolution
2	A resolution designating March 25, 2006, as "Greek
3	Independence Day: A National Day of Celebration of Greek
4	and American Democracy."

6	WHEREAS, the ancient Greeks developed the concept of
7	democracy in which the supreme power to govern was vested in the
8	people, and
9	WHEREAS, the Founding Fathers of the United States of
10	America drew heavily upon the political experience and
11	philosophy of ancient Greece in forming this nation's
12	representative form of government, and
13	WHEREAS, these and other ideals have forged a close bond
14	between these two nations and their peoples, and
15	WHEREAS, March 25, 2006, marks the 175th anniversary of the
16	beginning of the revolution that freed the Greek nation from the
17	Ottoman Empire, and
18	WHEREAS, it is proper and desirable to celebrate with the
19	freedom-loving Greek people and to reaffirm the democratic
20	principles from which these two great nations were born, NOW,
21	THEREFORE,

23	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
24	Florida:

26	That March 25, 2006, is designated as "Greek Independence
27	Day: A National Day of Celebration of Greek and American
28	Democracy."
