House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of the
3Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, Florida.

5     WHEREAS, in 1985, the Shriners Hospital for Children in
6Tampa, Florida, opened its doors to care for children with
7orthopedic conditions and since that time has maintained a staff
8dedicated to helping young patients develop their physical,
9emotional, and intellectual capabilities and to lead fuller,
10more productive lives, and
11     WHEREAS, the hospital, a 60-bed pediatric orthopedic
12hospital providing comprehensive orthopedic care to children at
13no charge, without regard to race, religion, or relationship to
14a Shriner, is designed to incorporate state-of-the-art equipment
15and advanced treatment programs with the Shriners Hospital's
16family-centered-care approach, and
17     WHEREAS, the hospital maintains a teaching affiliation with
18the University of South Florida and is heavily involved in
19ongoing research exploring the mysteries of musculoskeletal
20diseases of children, and
21     WHEREAS, the hospital has expended more than $300 million
22in the past 20 years on medical treatment, salaries, and
23services to the community; in that time has provided care to
24over 35,000 of Florida's children; and is committed to continued
25care for increasing numbers of children in the future, NOW,
26THEREFORE,

28Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
29Florida:

31     That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes the
3220th anniversary of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa,
33Florida, and urges the residents of the state not only to join
34this exceptional institution in the celebration of its 20 years
35of service to the children of this state, but to express their
36gratitude for the ongoing care and research for which it is
37known.
