2 | A resolution recognizing the 20th anniversary of the |
3 | Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, Florida. |

5 | WHEREAS, in 1985, the Shriners Hospital for Children in |
6 | Tampa, Florida, opened its doors to care for children with |
7 | orthopedic conditions and since that time has maintained a staff |
8 | dedicated to helping young patients develop their physical, |
9 | emotional, and intellectual capabilities and to lead fuller, |
10 | more productive lives, and |
11 | WHEREAS, the hospital, a 60-bed pediatric orthopedic |
12 | hospital providing comprehensive orthopedic care to children at |
13 | no charge, without regard to race, religion, or relationship to |
14 | a Shriner, is designed to incorporate state-of-the-art equipment |
15 | and advanced treatment programs with the Shriners Hospital's |
16 | family-centered-care approach, and |
17 | WHEREAS, the hospital maintains a teaching affiliation with |
18 | the University of South Florida and is heavily involved in |
19 | ongoing research exploring the mysteries of musculoskeletal |
20 | diseases of children, and |
21 | WHEREAS, the hospital has expended more than $300 million |
22 | in the past 20 years on medical treatment, salaries, and |
23 | services to the community; in that time has provided care to |
24 | over 35,000 of Florida's children; and is committed to continued |
25 | care for increasing numbers of children in the future, NOW, |
26 | THEREFORE, |

28 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
29 | Florida: |

31 | That the House of Representatives proudly recognizes the |
32 | 20th anniversary of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa, |
33 | Florida, and urges the residents of the state not only to join |
34 | this exceptional institution in the celebration of its 20 years |
35 | of service to the children of this state, but to express their |
36 | gratitude for the ongoing care and research for which it is |
37 | known. |
