House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the Filipino veterans of the United
3States Armed Forces of World War II.

5     WHEREAS, in 1934, the United States Congress passed the
6Philippine Independence Act, which created the Commonwealth Army
7of the Philippines, required all citizens of the Philippines to
8pledge allegiance to the United States until their independence,
9and authorized the President of the United States to place the
10Commonwealth Army under the command of the United States Army,
11and
12     WHEREAS, on July 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt
13placed the Commonwealth Army of the Philippines under the
14command of General Douglas MacArthur, thereby forming the United
15States Army Forces in the Far East, and
16     WHEREAS, an estimated 200,000 Filipinos from the
17Commonwealth Army, Philippine Scouts, and other anti-Japanese
18guerrilla units served with surpassing honor and sacrifice in
19the United States Armed Forces fighting against the Japanese
20alongside their American comrades and dying with them to
21liberate their nation and guarantee a United States victory in
22the Philippines, NOW, THEREFORE,

24Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25Florida:

27     That the House of Representatives wishes to recognize,
28honor, and thank the Filipino veterans of the United States
29Armed Forces of World War II, both living and dead, for the
30sacrifices they made in defense of freedom in that war.
