House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the Reverend Ernest Ferrell.

4     WHEREAS, through the Reverend Ernest Ferrell's faithful
5ministry of the Word, wise guidance and counseling, and
6unselfish outreach to both church and community, the
7congregation of Saint Mary Primitive Baptist Church in
8Tallahassee has experienced a phenomenal growth in membership
9during the 13 years he has served the church as Pastor, and
10     WHEREAS, a Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
11graduate as well as a pastor in the area for 36 years, Reverend
12Ferrell is well known for his brilliant leadership, outstanding
13accomplishments, and numerous contributions, and
14     WHEREAS, Reverend Ferrell has served as President and CEO
15of the Tallahassee Urban League for 32 years; is a respected
16member of the Tallahassee Community College African American
17History Calendar; and has received honors such as his Alma
18Mater's prestigious Martin Luther King Leadership Award, the
19City of Tallahassee's Reginald L. Rolle Minority Business
20Leadership Award and its Reverend Ernest Ferrell Day
21Proclamation Award, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Citizen of the
22Year Award, and the Leon County Achievement and Recognition
23Award, and
24     WHEREAS, a proven leader, Reverend Ferrell was president of
25the Florida Primitive Baptist Convention USA for 10 years,
26during which period the state convention realized many
27accomplishments and experienced outstanding growth; and he
28served as vice president of the national convention for 10
29fruitful years, until, in August 2005, he was elected the
30twelfth president of the National Primitive Baptist Convention,
31USA, the first time a Tallahassee native has been chosen to
32serve in that position, and
33     WHEREAS, on February 20, 2006, before an audience of more
34than 1,000 enthusiastic guests and well-wishers, some from as
35far away as Ohio and Texas, the Reverend Ernest Ferrell was
36inaugurated to the highest office of the National Primitive
37Baptist Convention, USA, NOW, THEREFORE,

39Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40Florida:

42     That House of Representatives joins in honoring the
43Reverend Ernest Ferrell, Pastor of Saint Mary Primitive Baptist
44Church.
45     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
46presented to the Reverend Ernest Ferrell, President, National
47Primitive Baptist Convention, USA, as a tangible token of the
48sentiments expressed herein.
