| 5 | WHEREAS, organized by the Florida Cooperative Extension |
| 6 | System of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and |
| 7 | Agricultural Sciences, the Florida 4-H program prepares the |
| 8 | state's youth for the workplace and encourages them to become |
| 9 | leaders, not only for tomorrow but also of today, and |
| 10 | WHEREAS, there are more than 240,000 children from 5 |
| 11 | through 18 years of age across the state, including all 67 |
| 12 | counties and the Seminole Tribe reservations, who participate in |
| 13 | the Florida 4-H program and make "the best better" by |
| 14 | participating in activities, events, and projects designed to |
| 15 | develop and strengthen skills and talents of the young |
| 16 | participants, and |
| 17 | WHEREAS, Florida 4-H participants who "learn by doing" are |
| 18 | involved in a diverse array of projects in areas ranging from |
| 19 | computers and community service to animal science and |
| 20 | aeronautics, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, every year, thousands of volunteers share their |
| 22 | knowledge and time with children from across the state, and |
| 23 | WHEREAS, through a variety of positive programs and events, |
| 24 | these volunteers mentor, support, and help youth make a |
| 25 | difference in their communities, and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program enables young people to |
| 27 | grow and become participating citizens in a democracy through |
| 28 | outstanding programs such as the Florida 4-H Legislature, |
| 29 | Congress, and Executive Boards, and |
| 30 | WHEREAS, while molding itself to meet the needs of the |
| 31 | citizens of this state, Florida 4-H focuses on the development |
| 32 | of positive, rural, suburban, and urban youth by teaching them |
| 33 | the essential elements of the Florida 4-H program: belonging, |
| 34 | independence, mastery, and generosity, NOW, THEREFORE, |
| 35 |

| 36 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 37 | Florida: |
| 38 |
|
| 39 | That the House of Representatives recognizes the positive |
| 40 | contributions of the Florida 4-H program and its volunteers and |
| 41 | designates April 27, 2006, as "Florida 4-H Day" at the Capitol. |
| 42 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
| 43 | presented to the Florida 4-H Executive Board as a tangible token |
| 44 | of the sentiments expressed herein. |
