House Resolution
2A resolution designating April 27, 2006, as "Florida 4-H
3Day" at the Capitol.

5     WHEREAS, organized by the Florida Cooperative Extension
6System of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and
7Agricultural Sciences, the Florida 4-H program prepares the
8state's youth for the workplace and encourages them to become
9leaders, not only for tomorrow but also of today, and
10     WHEREAS, there are more than 240,000 children from 5
11through 18 years of age across the state, including all 67
12counties and the Seminole Tribe reservations, who participate in
13the Florida 4-H program and make "the best better" by
14participating in activities, events, and projects designed to
15develop and strengthen skills and talents of the young
16participants, and
17     WHEREAS, Florida 4-H participants who "learn by doing" are
18involved in a diverse array of projects in areas ranging from
19computers and community service to animal science and
20aeronautics, and
21     WHEREAS, every year, thousands of volunteers share their
22knowledge and time with children from across the state, and
23     WHEREAS, through a variety of positive programs and events,
24these volunteers mentor, support, and help youth make a
25difference in their communities, and
26     WHEREAS, the Florida 4-H program enables young people to
27grow and become participating citizens in a democracy through
28outstanding programs such as the Florida 4-H Legislature,
29Congress, and Executive Boards, and
30     WHEREAS, while molding itself to meet the needs of the
31citizens of this state, Florida 4-H focuses on the development
32of positive, rural, suburban, and urban youth by teaching them
33the essential elements of the Florida 4-H program: belonging,
34independence, mastery, and generosity, NOW, THEREFORE,

36Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
37Florida:

39     That the House of Representatives recognizes the positive
40contributions of the Florida 4-H program and its volunteers and
41designates April 27, 2006, as "Florida 4-H Day" at the Capitol.
42     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
43presented to the Florida 4-H Executive Board as a tangible token
44of the sentiments expressed herein.
