4 | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Jennings serves as a role |
5 | model for girls and women in our great state to pursue success |
6 | in higher education, to establish a career, to become community |
7 | volunteers, and to enter public service to help improve the |
8 | quality of life for fellow Floridians, and |
9 | WHEREAS, Toni Jennings is the first woman to hold the |
10 | position of Lieutenant Governor in Florida; is the 16th |
11 | Lieutenant Governor of the nation's fourth most populous state; |
12 | is in support of initiatives for economic development, quality |
13 | education, and strengthening families; and has extensive public- |
14 | sector experience with unique knowledge of business gained as |
15 | president of a successful family-owned construction company, and |
16 | WHEREAS, a two-term member of the House of Representatives |
17 | until elected to the Senate, Ms. Jennings represented Central |
18 | Florida for 20 years, during which time she became the state's |
19 | first and only two-term Senate President and distinguished |
20 | herself as a skilled consensus builder while championing |
21 | workforce development initiatives, creating the state's school |
22 | readiness program, and advocating for the state's successful |
23 | program to move citizens from welfare to self-sufficiency, and |
24 | WHEREAS, since taking office in March 2003, Lieutenant |
25 | Governor Jennings has figured strongly in shaping the state's |
26 | agendas for educational excellence and affordable, accessible |
27 | healthcare, as exemplified by her leadership in the development |
28 | of recommendations for a voluntary, free prekindergarten program |
29 | for 4-year-olds and in crafting reforms in Florida's health care |
30 | market, and |
31 | WHEREAS, further evidence of Lieutenant Governor Jennings' |
32 | strong leadership qualities are her numerous awards while in the |
33 | Senate, including that of Conservation Legislator of the Year, |
34 | Friend of Education, and Friend of the First Amendment, as well |
35 | as by her induction into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame, and |
36 | WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Jennings is an enthusiastic |
37 | participant in civic affairs, but perhaps her greatest passion |
38 | finds expression in her frequent visits to schools throughout |
39 | the state, inspiring teachers and students alike in the pursuit |
40 | of the highest standards of literacy, NOW, THEREFORE, |

42 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

45 | That the House of Representatives hereby expresses to the |
46 | Honorable Toni Jennings, Lieutenant Governor of Florida, its |
47 | high esteem, sincere honor, and vigorous support. |
48 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
49 | presented to Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings as a tangible |
50 | token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
