5 | Section 15. Section 796.12, Florida Statutes, is created |
6 | to read: |
7 | 796.12 Payment for information pertaining to a violation |
8 | of chapter.--Any person providing information to a law |
9 | enforcement agency pursuant to s. 796.101 that materially |
10 | assists the law enforcement agency in the investigation of a |
11 | violation of this chapter that leads to a felony conviction or |
12 | withholding of adjudication shall be eligible for a $5,000 |
13 | payment from the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund within the Department |
14 | of Legal Affairs in furtherance of the crime fighting goals of |
15 | s. 16.555. Persons who were subject to any pending warrants, |
16 | indictments, or informations in any jurisdiction or were on any |
17 | community supervision at the time they provided the information |
18 | are not entitled to the payment. Law enforcement officers shall |
19 | not be eligible for the payment. Notwithstanding s. 16.555(5), |
20 | funds deposited in the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund within the |
21 | Department of Legal Affairs shall be available for the payments |
22 | authorized in this section, subject to any restrictions placed |
23 | on grants provided by a federal, state, or private entity |
24 | providing grant funds. |
