A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to nurse practitioners; amending s.
3893.02, F.S.; redefining the term "practitioner" to
4include an advanced registered nurse practitioner;
5authorizing an advanced registered nurse practitioner to
6prescribe certain controlled substances under certain
7circumstances; providing an effective date.

9Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11     Section 1.  Subsection (19) of section 893.02, Florida
12Statutes, is amended to read:
13     893.02  Definitions.--The following words and phrases as
14used in this chapter shall have the following meanings, unless
15the context otherwise requires:
16     (19)  "Practitioner" means a physician licensed pursuant to
17chapter 458, a dentist licensed pursuant to chapter 466, a
18veterinarian licensed pursuant to chapter 474, an osteopathic
19physician licensed pursuant to chapter 459, a naturopath
20licensed pursuant to chapter 462, or a podiatric physician
21licensed pursuant to chapter 461, or an advanced registered
22nurse practitioner certified pursuant to s. 464.012 in
23accordance with the requirements of this paragraph, provided
24such practitioner holds a valid federal controlled substance
25registry number. An advanced registered nurse practitioner
26certified pursuant to s. 464.012 may prescribe substances listed
27in Schedule III, Schedule IV, or Schedule V to the extent
28authorized by a protocol with a physician licensed under chapter
29458 or chapter 459. In addition to the authority to prescribe
30controlled substances listed in Schedule III, Schedule IV, or
31Schedule V, an advanced registered nurse practitioner may
32prescribe or order substances listed in Schedule II for a
33patient in a hospital or hospice to the extent authorized by his
34or her protocol.
35     Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
