| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |
|
| 11 | Section 1. Subsection (19) of section 893.02, Florida |
| 12 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
| 13 | 893.02 Definitions.--The following words and phrases as |
| 14 | used in this chapter shall have the following meanings, unless |
| 15 | the context otherwise requires: |
| 16 | (19) "Practitioner" means a physician licensed pursuant to |
| 17 | chapter 458, a dentist licensed pursuant to chapter 466, a |
| 18 | veterinarian licensed pursuant to chapter 474, an osteopathic |
| 19 | physician licensed pursuant to chapter 459, a naturopath |
| 20 | licensed pursuant to chapter 462, or a podiatric physician |
| 21 | licensed pursuant to chapter 461, or an advanced registered |
| 22 | nurse practitioner certified pursuant to s. 464.012 in |
| 23 | accordance with the requirements of this paragraph, provided |
| 24 | such practitioner holds a valid federal controlled substance |
| 25 | registry number. An advanced registered nurse practitioner |
| 26 | certified pursuant to s. 464.012 may prescribe substances listed |
| 27 | in Schedule III, Schedule IV, or Schedule V to the extent |
| 28 | authorized by a protocol with a physician licensed under chapter |
| 29 | 458 or chapter 459. In addition to the authority to prescribe |
| 30 | controlled substances listed in Schedule III, Schedule IV, or |
| 31 | Schedule V, an advanced registered nurse practitioner may |
| 32 | prescribe or order substances listed in Schedule II for a |
| 33 | patient in a hospital or hospice to the extent authorized by his |
| 34 | or her protocol. |
| 35 | Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. |
