| 9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 10 |
|
| 11 | Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subsection (2) of section |
| 12 | 1004.445, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
| 13 | 1004.445 Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr., Alzheimer's Center and |
| 14 | Research Institute.-- |

| 16 | (b) The affairs of the not-for-profit corporation shall be |
| 17 | managed by a board of directors who shall serve without |
| 18 | compensation. The board of directors shall consist of the |
| 19 | President of the University of South Florida and the chair of |
| 20 | the State Board of Education, or their designees, five |
| 21 | representatives of the state universities, and nine |
| 22 | representatives of the public who are neither medical doctors |
| 23 | nor state employees. For the purpose of staggering terms for |
| 24 | reappointment, five of the nine representatives of the public |
| 25 | shall be appointed to terms of 1 year each, and four shall be |
| 26 | appointed to terms of 2 years. Each director who is a |
| 27 | representative of a state university or of the public shall be |
| 28 | appointed to serve a term of 3 years. A director may not serve |
| 29 | more than two consecutive terms, except for the President of the |
| 30 | University of South Florida and the chair of the State Board of |
| 31 | Education, or their designees. The chair of the board of |
| 32 | directors shall be selected by a majority vote of the directors. |
| 33 | Each director shall have only one vote. Of the five university |
| 34 | representatives, one shall be appointed by the Governor, two by |
| 35 | the President of the Senate, and two by the Speaker of the House |
| 36 | of Representatives; and of the nine public representatives, |
| 37 | three shall be appointed by the Governor, three by the President |
| 38 | of the Senate, and three by the Speaker of the House of |
| 39 | Representatives. Any vacancy in office shall be filled in the |
| 40 | same manner as the original appointment. Any director may be |
| 41 | reappointed. |
| 42 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2007. |
